Flying in and out of Paris, it was the city where I spent the most number of days during my trip.
Public Transport
With 18 metro lines, 4 train lines running through and around the city, trams and busses all accessible by the same card, Paris had the most convenient public transport system amongst all the cities visited during my trip. Irrespective of whether you want to go somewhere 2 kms or 22 kms away, theres always some
Buy the Navigo Weekly/Weekend/Day Pass from any of the metro or train stations. It costs 22.80€ for seven days of transit on all Metro, RER, trams, and buses. This makes a lot of sense as this allows one to travel conveniently and cover all the places you have in mind.
Alternatively, you can get the T+ Ticket for 1.90€ which can be used for the next 120 minutes after validation. Don't forget to validate these!
Review: Heart of Amsterdam
+ Very convenient location in the midst of the most happening area of Amsterdam. Heart of Amsterdam is a very apt name!
+ Also a bit cheaper than other selections, so comparatively pocket friendly.
- I was staying in a 12 room mixed dorm, and since is is centrally located and comparatively cheaper, the crowd did have a few peculiar characters.
- There was some issue with my locker, that took a day to be resolved.
- No elevator, though elevators are not common in the inner city; but still a point to keep in mind in case you have a lot of luggage and end up getting a room in the top floor.
Review: Stayokay Den Haag
+ Conveniently located near the train station and tram stops, and walking distance to the central area.
+ The common area of the stay seemed nice with lots of place to sit, relax and work.
+ There was a bar and a cool back porch next to the canal.
- You're not allowed to bring your own food inside.
- You need to make your own beds.
Review: Plus Prague
+ Good value for money. Multiple facilities available for free.
+ Good vibe and atmosphere in the hotel.
- A bit far from the central part of the city, but conveniently accessible by tram.
- There were a couple of instances when I needed something and went to the reception, and there was no one there, and I had to wait for a considerable amount of time before anyone came.
- The sockets in my room were a bit inconveniently placed behind the bed, but no biggie.
Review: Space Home Hostel - City Hall
+ Loved the capsule concept and space design - very futuristic and cool! It is a unique experience and I would definitely recommend to experience something like this at least once.
+ The space themed pods were really well designed with a TV, folding table, head phones, charging ports, ventilation, ceiling and mirror lights. The space might have been a bit small, but it was very well utilized.
+ Convenient location with it being walking distance to tram and bus stops; you could also walk to the central area if you wanted to.
+ There is no staff at the facility, so you receive all passcodes and details required for checking in online. Staff comes in once a day to clean and replace sheets etc.
- It is priced at par with Airbnbs and other stays where you can have an entire room to yourself.
- No common area to hang out and socialize; but then again the entire room was common to all boarders.
Review: a&o Munich Laim
+ Adequate place to spend the night if you're on a budget.
+ Close to bus stop and 8-10 minute walk to metro station. Laim metro station is a hub station where multiple lines meet.
- No lockers for luggage. You need to keep your things under the bed and trust the people in the room. You can give things like laptop at the reception for them to keep, but they won't keep your bags (even laptop bag).
- Room layout is a bit weird. There are bunk beds and double beds, and you're aren't specifically allocated a bed; so it's up to your luck.
- There was no water for an hour in the morning.
- Staff was a bit rude.
